Well...it seems the Reverend has confessed to purchasing meth once (but not using it) and getting a massage...whew...for a moment there I thought we may have had another Republican pervert on our hands. Hmmm...purchasing but not using? Is that anything like, "but, I didn't inhale?" Hahahah.
This whole thing reminds me of my favorite line in American film. The film was "Some Like It Hot," with Marylin Monroe, Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis. Lemmon and Curtis are trying to escape some Chicago mobsters and join a girl's band, disguised as women. They end up at the Coronado Hotel (in the movie in Florida; in reality in San Diego), playing in the band. Curtis falls in love with Monroe; Lemmon spends the film being chased by an aging wealthy playboy, Joe E. Brown. At the end of the film, Lemmon finally turns to Brown and says, "I have something to tell you; I'm a man." Brown thinks about this a second and replies, "Well, no body's perfect."
Well, Reverend...no body's perfect.
And, actually, when you think about it, even if the sex part turns out to be true, there is nothing necessarily hypocritical about a closet gay drugee opposing the same sex marriage idea. I mean, theoretically one proposition does not lead to the other, right? Not that I'd particularly enjoy trying to explain that logic to 14,000 Evangelical Christian parishioners. "Yes, I am a closet homosexual, but I want you to know that as such, I still honestly believe that marriage is between a man and a woman"...pause..."I mean, if we were married it wouldn't be half as much fun, would it?" Nooo...resignation was probably better.
So much for today's "news cycle." Significant? About as much as Kerry telling a bad joke badly...but certainly a lot more "very interesting."

I haven't heard of the guy, but if he really does lead millions of conservative Evangelical Christians, the event may depress voter turnout among that group. How do you think the conviction of Saddam two days before the election is going to play? Is that why the GOP still is playing it confident? Of course, I'm assuming he'll be convicted. If he isn't...well, that would just prove that it could get worse for the GOP.
Yes...not sure how he could be found "not guilty." But, there is probably some appeal or review process, so rather doubt the verdict will have much immediate impact.
I am beginning to think that Rove's October/Last Minute Surprise isn't going to happen. News referenced in post is all pretty much bad for Republicans...the Reverend's problem, failing to fund the audit group on Iraqi Reconstruction, publishing the pre-1991 intel on "how to make an atomic bomb," on the web, the Alexander Strategy Group junkets, etc.
And, this evening the story broke about the Military Times newspaper's forthcoming editorials asking for Rumsfeld's resignation. I remember from my own military service days, that these papers really reflect the "career military viewpoint."
Listened to Fox this evening...same old, same old...i.e. "the Democrats have no plan." Per the Republican norm, they are all frightenly disciplined about "staying on message," parroting Bush's earlier in the day campaign speech. And, equally scary, it is as if they cannot hear or respond to counter arguments...when Juan Williams (a guest) pointed out that the Democrats have put out a detailed list of things to be done in the first few days - e.g. a resolution to implement the 9/11 Commission Report, etc. it was as if he hadn't said anything...like he wasn't even there...the Bush supporters just kept repeating the "message of the day." Scary...
Sort of "Night of the Living Dead." I think it is primarily because most of his remaining hard core followers are not really great intellects and really don't know how to respond to criticism.
The few Republicans who will "engage" and still argue the Republican case (as opposed to the Bush case) are all moving away from him.
It's pretty much the now all too familiar Rove tactic of attack, attack, attack and simply ignore your opponent's arguments...but as the failures mount, the tactic becomes increasingly obvious.
Don't forget the compromised security at secrets at Los Alamos...
Mental note...use the preview button next time.
